A frisky flying fish brooch with inlaid turquoise fins and flippers. His slippery sterling silver body is generous in size, perfect for a coat or blazer. One fin is raised off his rounded, cartoon-like body, giving him a three-dimensional quality. The turquoise is superb, cerulean blue shot through with an inky black matrix. He could not be more charming if he tried. Marked for Taxco, Mexico. Circa 1980.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for designers and studio jewelers was the abundant supply of locally mined materials like silver and semi-precious gems.
